Mandated Domestic Abuse Training for Welfare to Work Staff

Using the CalWORKs 2.0 philosophies, along with, having an in-depth understanding of Domestic Violence can be a powerful tool in providing families with effective services. Increased Welfare-to-Work staff awareness helps to promote better understanding, trust, safety, and outcomes between providers and clients.

This course will equip case managers with comprehensive knowledge and strategies to effectively support victims of domestic abuse within the Welfare to Work program. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of ACL 23-109 changes and requirements, and be able to navigate exemptions, good cause, and necessary support mechanisms while ensuring the safety and confidentiality of individuals experiencing domestic violence.

By the end of this course, participants be able will to:

  • Review the spectrum of domestic violence types and dynamics
  • Recognize and interpret signs, behaviors, and the impact of Domestic Violence on victims and perpetrators, along with safety planning techniques
  • Decrease Secondary Trauma and identify one’s role in supporting victims of domestic violence
  • Analyze “good cause” exemptions and their application on a case-by-case basis within WTW policies
  • Identify and assess various methods of verification required for domestic violence situations
  • Explain the procedures for informing and supporting applicants/recipients experiencing domestic violence
  • Examine confidentiality protocols and waivers of program requirements in cases involving domestic violence
  • Apply guidelines for inter-county transfers and release of information between agencies

Fee Details: The program enrollment fee is .08 training unit per person for those utilizing their county contract. If not using a county contract, the fee is $340.00 per person. The fee for a 1-day class, and it includes soft copy materials.

Training Format: This program will be offered via remote learning using Zoom. Login information will be provided after your enrollment is processed.

Enrollment closes 1 day before start of class.
