Child and Family Teaming (CFT) Overview

This half-day training is designed to orient participants to the Child and Family Team (CFT) meeting process. This training is for individuals who may participate in CFT meetings or need to know basic information about CFT meetings due to intersecting with child welfare, juvenile probation and/or behavioral health systems. This includes case-carrying child welfare social workers, probation officers, community partners or others. Participants will be introduced to basic concepts related to CFT meetings using the California Integrated Core Practice Model (ICPM) as the foundational guide for practice.

Topics include:

  • The importance of CFT meetings in practice and within Continuum of Care Reform (CCR) legislation and ICPM
  • Child and Family Teaming and CFT meeting definitions, description and defining values
  • Definition of the Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) and how it enhances and supports the CFT
  • CFT meeting structure
