Safety Organized Practice (SOP) Learning Collaborative

This collaborative will provide a platform for county leaders, trainers, coaches and Safety Organized Practice (SOP) champions to come together and discuss implementing and sustaining SOP within their county. Participants will share experiences about challenges, what is working well, and strategies for implementation and sustainability for shared learning and overcoming problem-solving barriers. Additionally, this will be an opportunity to learn about new resources and updates regarding SOP in connection with the California SOP Backbone Committee. Topics will be driven by the needs and interests of the collaborative participants, and information will be provided by SOP experts through presentations and interactive dialog. This is a wonderful opportunity to network and stay connected to SOP updates and resources.

This collaborative is best for individuals in counties who are involved in implementation, training, coaching and supporting SOP practice, including SOP champions.

Michaela Woodward

Michaela Woodward, M.S.W., has served in the fields of child welfare, public service and leadership. Since 1998, she has had roles in both non-profit and county settings, providing child welfare services as a TDM facilitator, therapist, social worker, program manager and program director. She has experience in the field from screening to permanency in legal, educational, juvenile probation and mental health settings, as well as a strong background in addressing disproportionality of marginalized families and improving fatherhood engagement in child welfare. Woodward partners with counties throughout California to provide facilitation, training, coaching and implementation consultation of SOP, CFT, CANS, and many other child welfare topics. Her facilitation style and humor provide adult learners with higher levels of engagement, resulting in effective transfer of learning and best outcomes.

Monica Montury

Monica Montury, LCSW, M.S.W., is an academic coordinator with Human Services at UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education. She worked for San Luis Obispo County Child Welfare Services from 2010 to 2022 as a social worker and supervisor. Montury has experience supervising all ongoing services and played a lead role in developing the Voluntary Family Maintenance and Child and Family Team Meetings Programs in San Luis Obispo County, which she also supervised. She is a fierce supporter of Safety Organized Practice (SOP) and has extensive experience in implementing, training, and coaching SOP. She also has a passion for supporting Child Welfare agencies in furthering and strengthening prevention efforts and strategies.
