Quality Caseworker Visits (Virtual Training)

This two-day training will enhance social workers’ skills for working smarter, not harder in monthly contacts. It teaches approaches to strengthening working relationships with birth parents, resource parents, children and youth and assessing safety, permanency and well-being relevant to different developmental ages. It includes opportunities to practice collaborative monitoring of case plans, and concise, complete documentation of monthly contacts.

After attending this training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the requirements for frequency and quality visits with parent and children
  • Identify the key tasks related to preparation before a visit, key behaviors during a visit and follow-up after a visit
  • Describe the key information to document following a contact with a child/youth or parent
  • Describe the correlation between quality visits and improved outcomes
  • Demonstrate a quality caseworker contact with a child, youth, or parent that includes key Integrated Core Practice Model (ICPM) behaviors
  • Value quality caseworker visits as the key to building rapport, engaging youth and parents and collaboratively assessing and planning for safety, permanency, and well-being
  • Value working collaboratively with families to identify strengths, resources, challenges, and opportunities for support
  • Value caseworker visits as opportunities to learn about the child/youth's and parent's culture(s) and how their culture(s) can be integral to healing and safety
