ICWA Webinar Series: Tribal Consultation & Collaboration

This 90-minute webinar focuses on collaboration and consultation with a child’s Tribe in a case under the Indian Child Welfare Act. The course will explore how consultation and collaboration are key to providing active efforts, when the worker should consult with the Tribe over the course of a case, approaching the Tribe in a culturally appropriate manner, and what issues should be discussed with the Tribe.

After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
•    Understand how to initiate and maintain Tribal collaboration throughout the case.
•    Understand the different stages throughout the case when consultation should occur.
•    Understand the key issues on which Tribal consultation should occur.
•    Set up and conduct a CFT that minimizes the power imbalance between the agency and other participants, including the Tribe.
•    Engage and collaborate with the Tribe in a way that recognizes and honors Tribal sovereignty.
•    Appreciate the contributions Tribes can make towards the best interest of Indian children.
