ICWA Webinar Series: Active Efforts

This 90-minute webinar focuses on the Active Efforts requirement under the Indian Child Welfare Act. The course will discuss the definition of active efforts, examples of active efforts, when active efforts are provided, Tribal and family engagement as part of active efforts, as well as documentation and proof of active efforts.

After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
•    Understand what active efforts are and how they differ from reasonable efforts.
•    Understand how active efforts strengthen social and cultural ties of the child with their Tribal heritage.
•    Recommend and provide services that are socially and culturally appropriate and meet minimum ICWA requirements.
•    Document active efforts in the delivery of servicers log and all court reports to provide evidence to the court that active efforts were made to prevent the breakup of a family.
•    Incorporate Tribal and family engagement through the CFT process.
•    Appreciate the importance of active efforts as a key component of ICWA designed to prevent the unnecessary breakup of families.
•    Appreciate the importance of Tribal collaboration in the development and provision of active efforts.
