ICWA Specialist Continuing Education

Join us for a dynamic 2-hour virtual training on the latest updates to the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA). This session will cover recent changes to state and federal ICWA legislation, emerging developments in California Tribal Child Welfare, and essential practice adjustments for supporting Native American children and families. Participants will also have the opportunity to reflect on practice changes since previous training, exchange ideas for enhancing relationships with Tribes, and explore strategies to better serve Native American communities. Please come prepared to share your questions, challenges and successes from your agency's experience.

Geneva Shaw

Geneva Shaw (Enrolled Hoopa Valley Tribe; Yurok/Karuk/Mescalero Apache descent), M.S.W., has been a CPH Social Work Department faculty member since 2014. Four of those years were in service as the Department’s MSW Director. She has spent her social work career working as an administrator, direct practitioner, educator, trainer, and technical assistance provider of social work in Tribal communities. For six of those years, she worked for the Yurok Tribe developing, implementing, and reporting on many state and federally funded programs to provide a variety of programming including but not limited to Indian Child Welfare, Tribal TANF, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, Youth Prevention/Intervention and much more. Shaw also serves as the Training and Curriculum Development Director for California Tribal Families Coalition which is a tribally led and centered advocacy organization in the field of tribal child welfare.
