CFT and CANS Learning Collaborative (Virtual Training)

Child and Family Team (CFT) facilitators, supervisors, coordinators, and members of county CFT and/ or CANS implementation teams are encouraged to join this quarterly series of practice-level collaborative learning sessions. This engaging series presents a great opportunity for a focused review of and discussion about CFT and CANS practice, as well as cross county sharing and skill development opportunities.

Emma Black

Emma Black, M.S.W., is an academic coordinator working with UC Davis Human Services-Northern Academy to develop and rework its training curriculum to better support counties with various initiatives, including CANS, Child and Family Teaming, FURS, and FFPSA. Black has worked in public child welfare for nearly a decade, serving as a social worker and supervisor across several programs. She has written several county policies on case planning, visitation, foster youth rights, court report writing, safety planning, etc. She has developed a passion for working in child welfare and, through her role as a college instructor, teaches her students the significance of a social justice approach to working with vulnerable children and families.

Janice Boafo

Janice Boafo, LCSW, M.S.W., is a coach and facilitator whose professional life is informed by her lived experiences and more than 25 years of work in human services and behavioral health. She is dedicated to culturally responsive liberatory practices, community healing and the transformational power of story sharing. Her interests include educational equity, behavioral health recovery, public child welfare reform, pedagogy as activism, and exploring the intersections of art, culture and social justice.

Darryn Green

Darryn Green is a training facilitator, consultant and coach with more than 20 years of experience working with organizations that empower people to improve the systems by which they are impacted. As an instructor for UC Davis Human Services, he helps human services professionals improve their skill and knowledge in the areas of intervention & de-escalation, understanding sexual orientation gender identity & expression (SOGIE), understanding race & racism, integrating equity & inclusion values and practices, strategic planning and leadership development. Green also works with the Bay Area Academy as a trainer, curriculum developer and coach. A systems thinker with a deep commitment to collaboration and empowerment, Green enjoys working with clients and colleagues to explore and develop ways to improve the world around them–beginning with the self and extending out into their networks, organizations, and communities.
