Advancing Permanency through Adoption – Module 2: Assessment and Permanency Report Writing (Virtual)

This second module of the four-part Advancing Permanency through Adoption series focuses on the assessment of bond, attachment and the measure of detriment in preparation for adoption permanency hearings. The course content will provide information, from general to specific, regarding the integration of California child welfare teaming models and practices that are currently impacting permanency through the crosswalk of child welfare, Resource Family Approval (RFA), and adoption practice.

After attending this training, participants will be able to:

  • Assess child attachment and the measure of parent-child bond
  • Value the need for clear and convincing evidence to establish that termination is in the best interest of the child
  • Increase understanding of the timing and content of court hearings used to review the status and determine the permanent placement of children who have been placed with prospective adoptive families
  • Examine and discern specific content required by the court in support of permanency through adoption
  • Apply the tools of engagement and assessment inherent in Safety Organized Practice, CANS within CFTM, and professional collaboration in continuing child and caregiver support and preparation for permanency through adoption
