Together at the Table—Planning for Success as We Evolve

Now in its 18th year, the Institute brings together Tribal TANF staff from across the country for a unique educational experience. Our 2023 theme, “Together at the Table—Planning for Success as We Evolve” will emphasize coming together—as professionals who serve tribal communities—to share our experiences, highlight what’s working well and deepen our practice in the interest of collaborative learning and continuous quality improvement. We’ll examine proven strategies and best practices to empower us and strengthen our engagement and commitment to our work with families and communities in a post-pandemic environment.

The 2023 Institute will be held in person held at the Hilton Sacramento Arden West, 2200 Harvard St., Sacramento, CA.

What to Expect at the 2023 Institute

  • Gain culturally appropriate professional development skills
  • Foster and encourage collaboration and interaction between tribal communities
  • Learn best practices in service delivery to those in need in our communities
  • Celebrate the diversity of culture and experience of institute participants and their sovereign nations

Who Should Attend

We welcome case managers, case assistants, employment counselors, training coordinators, intake specialists, wellness and prevention staff, youth development coordinators supervisors, community partners, program managers, directors, tribal council members and elders. We can all find opportunities for professional development and organizational growth at the Institute.

Workshop Tracks

The Institute will offer four distinct tracks designed to support staff in various levels of experience and roles:

  • 101 Track: Designed to introduce case managers to the nuts and bolts of the federal TANF program, including case management best practices and strategies to address common barriers to client success and long-term self-sufficiency. *If you are a first-time attendee, we strongly recommend you select the 101 track.

  • Advanced Case Management Track: Designed for the more experienced workers, looking to further their skills and abilities to provide solutions to specific challenges faced in communities they serve.

  • Supervision & Management Track: Designed to assist managers in developing strategies and skills to lead their teams to improved effectiveness and efficiency when working with their clients to achieve self-sufficiency.

  • Leadership Track: Designed for the leaders who want to enhance their organizational systems thinking, boost their communications impact, and improve their strategic decision-making abilities. Leaders will learn how to effectively use their influence to build trust and motivation across the organization to implement successful and sustainable programs.
