Opening Keynote Presentation - Tanaya Winder
Let Your Heartwork Lead You
Together at the table, we will plan for personal and community-wide success by letting your “heartwork” lead you.
Everyone has a gift to share and a fire to ignite to help heal the world. Join Tanaya as she weaves resilience and empowerment into her storytelling and performance. Discover how you can overcome obstacles, and turn struggle, pain, and wounds into power.
Participants will:
- Learn how challenges can be viewed as a gift – a gift that will transform us and make us stronger
- Take control of your narrative by identifying and embracing your story
- Connect your story with your community and share this knowledge with those you serve
Tanaya Winder, M.F.A., is an author, singer, songwriter, poet, motivational speaker and educator who comes from an intertribal lineage of Southern Ute, Pyramid Lake Paiute, Diné and Duckwater Shoshone Nations where she is an enrolled citizen. Her heritage also includes African American. Tanaya's performances and talks emphasize the importance of “heartwork”—the life path one is meant to follow by using one's gifts and passions. She blends storytelling, singing, and spoken word to teach about different expressions of love (self love, intimate love, social love, community love, and universal love). She is the director of the University of Colorado Boulder's Upward Bound program; during her 10 years there she has served hundreds of Indigenous youth. She also co-founded Sing Our Rivers Red's Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) earring exhibit. Tanaya believes everyone has a gift they've been placed on this earth to share.

Decolonizing Wellness - An Ancestral Approach
Advanced Case Management Track
Decolonizing wellness is the process of challenging and rethinking traditional Western approaches to health and wellness that have been influenced by colonialism, imperialism, and capitalism. This includes questioning and dismantling the ways in which Western medicine and wellness practices have been used to oppress and exploit marginalized communities, and exploring alternative approaches that are more inclusive, equitable, and culturally sensitive. We can begin to move away from a one-size-fits-all approach to health and wellness, and towards a more holistic and inclusive model that recognizes the interconnectedness of our physical, emotional, spiritual, and social well-being. In this workshop, we will acknowledge and respect the traditional knowledge and practices of indigenous communities and people of color. This means recognizing the impact of colonialism and imperialism on these communities and working towards reclaiming and centering knowledge.
