Turning Vision Into Action
The Planning Phase of High Fidelity Wraparound is where a shared vision begins to take shape. It is a phase filled with collaboration, creativity, problem-solving and partnership. Families, youth, natural supporters and professionals come together to identify what matters most, establish a common direction and create a plan for moving forward together.
As I reflect on this year's Partnerships for Well-Being Institute (PWBI), I am struck by how closely the experience of planning for it mirrored the Planning Phase of Wraparound. In Wraparound, one of the most important planning activities is developing a team mission. A strong mission helps guide decisions when challenges arise and keeps everyone focused on a common purpose.
Throughout the planning process for PWBI, our mission remained clear: to create a meaningful learning experience that strengthens California's System of Care and improves outcomes for children, youth, families and communities.
Another hallmark of the Planning Phase is the belief that the best solutions emerge when diverse perspectives come together. Wraparound teams are encouraged to think creatively, build on strengths and explore possibilities that may not be obvious at first. The same spirit guided PWBI. Behind the scenes was a process that many Wraparound teams would recognize immediately. Over nearly two years, county partners, providers, educators, behavioral health professionals, child welfare representatives, trainers and system leaders came together around a shared vision. Together, they identified priorities, brainstormed possibilities, worked through challenges, adjusted plans when needed and committed to action steps that moved the work forward.
The Planning Phase also reminds us that a vision only becomes reality when people commit to carrying out action steps. Every presentation, planning meeting, technology check, registration process and logistical detail represented the efforts of individuals working together toward a shared goal.
And speaking of turning vision into action, we are excited to begin the next chapter of this work through the new High Fidelity Wraparound Behavioral Health Center of Excellence (COE). While much of the planning has happened behind the scenes, you will soon begin to see that work come to life. Over the coming months, the COE will begin offering new trainings, consultation opportunities, technical assistance, implementation resources and tools designed to support counties and providers in strengthening High Fidelity Wraparound across California. You'll also begin seeing more High Fidelity Wraparound classes on our website, along with resources and communications that will help you understand what's available, what's coming next and how to engage with the COE. We look forward to introducing you to the people behind this work and sharing updates as the COE continues to grow.
This year's PWBI also provided opportunities to learn about important developments ahead, including California's upcoming Tiered Rate Structure in 2027 and other statewide initiatives that will shape the future of services for children, youth and families. Like Wraparound teams preparing for the future, these conversations reminded us that planning is not only about solving today's challenges, but also about anticipating tomorrow's opportunities.
The success of PWBI—and the excitement surrounding the Center of Excellence—serve as powerful reminders that when people come together with a shared purpose, respect for one another's perspectives and a commitment to meaningful outcomes, remarkable things can happen.
