New Wraparound Training and Resources

Introducing Two New Wraparound Skills Labs and the Wraparound Foundational Class Passport

The Resource Center for Family-Focused Practice at UC Davis Human Services is excited to announce the launch of two new Wraparound Skills Labs: the Natural Supports Skills Lab and the Transition Skills Lab! These interactive, hands-on learning sessions are designed to help Wraparound practitioners enhance their skills and better support families and youth on their journey toward success. To complement these new labs, we’re also offering Wraparound Foundational Class Passports—easy-to-use tools available on our website to help you keep track of your attendance in the fundamental Wraparound classes offered by UC Davis Human Services.

About the Skills Labs

Natural Supports Skills Lab: Strengthening Support Networks

In Wraparound, natural supports–like extended family, friends and community members– are essential for helping families reach their goals and sustain positive outcomes over time and long after Wraparound services have ended. This skills lab focuses on helping practitioners identify and engage these informal supports to create lasting networks for families. This lab is ideal for Wraparound facilitators, family support specialists and anyone working closely with youth and families who want to enhance their skills in building a strong support network around families.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Identifying natural supports: Learn how to help families discover who in their lives can offer help, even if they may not realize it at first.
  • Creating sustainable support systems: Understand how to bring natural supports into the process and ensure they stay involved with the family after formal services have ended.
  • Empowering youth and families: Equip families with tools and strategies to communicate and strengthen their relationships with natural supports for the long haul.

Transition Skills Lab: Preparing for Life’s Next Steps

The Transition Skills Lab is all about supporting youth and families through major transitions, such as stepping down from formal services or moving from adolescence to adulthood. These moments can be stressful, but with the right tools, practitioners can help families navigate them with confidence. This lab is particularly valuable for those working with older youth or families nearing the end of formal services, but all practitioners will benefit from the insights offered.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Early transition planning: Discover how to start discussing transitions early in the Wraparound process, so families are well-prepared when the time comes.
  • Youth-driven decision making: Explore ways to empower young people to take the lead in setting their goals, making decisions, and planning for their futures.
  • Overcoming challenges: Learn how to support families through common obstacles during transitions, ensuring they can adjust and continue moving forward.
