This interactive half-day course equips eligibility staff, supervisors and program leaders with practical strategies to reduce CalFresh payment errors while strengthening program integrity and client service. Participants will examine common Quality Control (QC) error trends and explore key risk areas, including Income Reporting Threshold (IRT) requirements, substantial lottery and gambling winnings, income verification, mid-period reporting and HR-1 processing.
Through real-world case scenarios, plain-language communication techniques and actionable workflow tools, learners will build confidence in navigating complex policy requirements, including evolving ABAWD rules and exemptions. Focused on prevention, consistency and compliance, this session provides practical solutions to improve case accuracy, strengthen documentation and enhance the overall client experience.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Analyze key CalFresh payment error categories, including income reporting, household changes, verification gaps, HR-1 semi-annual tracking and ABAWD status determinations.
- Apply plain-language communication strategies to clearly explain IRTs, gross monthly income limits, 10-day reporting rules and ABAWD work requirements to clients.
- Implement workflow and case documentation practices that mitigate QC risks, resolve verification gaps, and support timely, accurate eligibility decisions.
