Springing for Summer at UC Davis Human Services
Wow, is it May already? There are so many things to update you on in this Spring Edition of the Wraparound Connections Newsletter. First, we are so happy that our newsletter is back in PDF format for your reading and sharing pleasure! Our blog post of the newsletter served us well through the pandemic and we are very happy to see one more turn toward normalcy with the release of the newsletter back in your hands. The blog post will continue to be available as well for those who have come to enjoy that format.
Back in February, the UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education departments brought together the teams from Northern Training Academy, Custom Training and Services, Research and Evaluation, and the Resource Center for Family Focused Practice for our annual division meeting in early February–and man, was it fun! We spent 2 days reflecting, sharing, and planning so that we can continue to bring you updated and relevant trainings that empower you to be the best human services helping-person you can be. Please visit our website to see all of your learning opportunities at: humanservices.ucdavis.edu/
Hopping from winter fun over to late-spring and early summer, the excitement for the 2024 Partnerships for Well-Being Institute is ramping up! Join us in Garden Grove, CA, June 12-14th 2024 as we highlight People, Purpose, Passion: Promoting Equity, Family and Community. Seats are filling up fast this year. The 2 and ½ day convention is now open for enrollment at: humanservices.ucdavis.edu/events
Also open for enrollment is the 2024 National Tribal TANF Institute! This year’s theme, Forever Native: Preserving Our Culture for the Next Generation will emphasize the importance of honoring tribal values, culture, and traditions while also embracing new ideas, practices, and innovations. The Institute will be held in person on the University of California, Davis Campus on July 15-18th 2024. You can enroll at humanservices.ucdavis.edu/events
And bringing us back to focus on the present, this edition of the newsletter provides three compelling examples of people and families not only overcoming challenges, but also becoming champions for others through their lived experiences. There is no denying the power of peer support. Families are often provided “professional” services but being surrounded by folks that can provide sincere compassion, advice, and sometimes even a kick in the rear, because they have also been through it just hits differently.
Are you one of these champions? Are you a parent partner or youth partner with lived experience and have the desire to reach more families and have an impact on the systems? You can join the Parent Partner Advisory Committee (PPAC) or Peer Partner Hubs to collaborate with other champions just like you! Learn more at:
PPAC: humanservices.ucdavis.edu/parent-partners/advisory-committee
Peer Partner Hubs: humanservices.ucdavis.edu/parent-partners/peer-partner-hubs
Lastly, check out the new addition to our newsletter, Acronym Corner. In an effort to educate the masses while developing a culture of inclusivity and equity, we are highlighting some acronyms commonly used by the systems our families navigate. By sharing the acronyms and their definitions with families and all who assist them, we can even the playing field and ensure no one feels left out of the conversation.
We hope you enjoy this edition and will see you in the summer!
