Empowering Each Other: Peer Support Strategies for Welfare to Work Staff

This hands-on, interactive workshop empowers staff to reignite their sense of purpose and strengthen both personal and team resilience—key ingredients for transforming the lives of Welfare-to-Work clients. Through reflective exercises, peer support strategies and meaningful dialogue, participants will reconnect with the “why” behind their work and explore how small shifts in mindset and practice can lead to big impacts. Attendees will leave with practical tools to foster a culture of empathy, trust and empowerment, making the mission of changing lives not only possible but sustainable.

After attending this training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe how reconnecting with personal and professional purpose fuels motivation and enhances service delivery

  • Differentiate between informal and intentional peer support strategies and identify examples of each

  • Participate in structured peer support activities, such as team check-ins, to build collective resilience

  • Apply strategies for setting healthy professional boundaries while maintaining supportive peer relationships

  • Recognize the deep fulfillment that comes from purpose-driven work and its ripple effect on client outcomes

  • Embrace the responsibility of self-care and collective care as essential components of effective service delivery
