Common CalFresh Errors and Best Practices

Accurate eligibility and benefit determinations are essential to ensuring households receive the assistance they qualify for, while maintaining program integrity and compliance with state and federal requirements. This full-day training examines the most common causes of CalFresh eligibility and benefit errors found by Quality Assurance and provides practical strategies for preventing them through effective policy application, verification practices, interviewing techniques, documentation and case management.

Through interactive discussions, case studies and hands-on activities, participants will analyze real-world scenarios, identify where errors occur, determine root causes and apply appropriate corrective actions. The course also reviews quality review findings, current error trends and recent policy changes, including ABAWD requirements. Participants will leave with practical tools and best practices to improve case accuracy, strengthen documentation, promote consistent decision-making, and reduce preventable errors in their daily work.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
  • Explain the purpose of quality review processes and their role in promoting program accuracy and accountability.

  • Apply eligibility, verification and documentation requirements to support accurate case decisions.
