Human trafficking is a hidden corruption, and the first step to fighting it is to recognize victims so they can be freed and help bring their perpetrators to justice. This workshop develops awareness and provides training materials to help increase awareness and educate on the indicators of human trafficking. This workshop will discuss how trauma and trafficking are inherently connected. Participants will gain insight into the application of a victim-centered approach with trauma-informed care.
Topics include:
- Defining human trafficking, reviewing challenges and myths
- Discussing major concepts and terms relating to domestic/international human trafficking
- Understanding physical and mental health risks associated with trafficking
- Articulating how traffickers exploit victim vulnerabilities
- Defining and discussing what is a “victim-centered approach” and “trauma-informed care”
- Setting personal goals for taking steps within the participants’ control to advance their knowledge
