Evaluating a client’s ability to make informed decisions is one of the most complex responsibilities APS professionals face. This course offers guidance on tailoring interview questions to assess decision-making ability, understanding the factors that influence capacity and recognizing the limitations of screening tools. Participants will also gain insight into when a formal clinical evaluation may be needed.
After attending this training, participants will be able to:
- Define autonomy and decision-making capacity
- Describe factors that may influence decision-making capacity and decision-making ability
- Identify factors that may influence a client's decision-making capacity
- Describe signs and symptoms that may indicate deficits in decision-making ability
- Identify key questions and approaches used to screen decision-making ability
