Safety Organized Approach to DV: Child and Survivor Centered Safety and Case Planning

Participants will be introduced to Structured Decision Making assessment to move away from “failure to protect” and focus on a perpetrator’s pattern of coercion and control as the source of the harm. We will explore the risks and dilemmas associated with using restraining orders and family separation as a means for child safety. Participants will learn the importance of immediate action when building behaviorally specific safety plans with survivors and their network members. Luck will introduce the tools for building reliable safety networks willing to hold the perpetrator responsible for their behavior. Partnering with survivors will improve cross-collaboration with law enforcement and other community partners to plan for safety. The Instructor will provide example action items and case plan objectives for creating safety plans with families who are experiencing domestic violence.
