This course addresses the impact of traumatic experiences child development. Participants will explore and engage in experiential activities that will enhance their abilities to understand and to effectively address issues associated with trauma in children.
After attending this training, participants will be able to:
- Describe theories of normative child development across six areas of development
- Recognize the interplay of traumatic experiences, age at exposure, and protective factors
- Understand the impact of trauma on physical and cognitive development
- Understand the impact of trauma on attachment, relationship and psychosocial development
- Recognize the impact of trauma on emotional and moral development
- List steps child welfare workers can take to incorporate understanding of the impact of trauma in their work
