This intensive training equips attendees with comprehensive knowledge and skills related to foster care eligibility programs and eligibility determinations. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the rules, regulations and processing requirements for various foster care programs, including Emergency Assistance Foster Care, Foster Care Medi-Cal, AFDC-Foster Care, Approved Relative Caregiver Program, Kin-Gap, and Extended Foster Care. This course includes a detailed review of eligibility requirements, required forms, application processing and ongoing case management.
After attending this training, participants will be able to:
- Identify the different roles and duties of a placement agency staff and a foster care eligibility staff regarding obtaining healthcare coverage for children in foster care and funding for caregivers.
- Define the background and purpose of the foster care system.
- Define the different funding sources for foster care eligibility.
- Examine the responsibility of eligibility staff in the foster care eligibility determination process.
- Identify regulatory requirements for Emergency Assistance Foster Care, Emergency Assistance-Emergency Caregiver, Foster Care Medi-Cal, AFDC-Foster Care, Approved Relative Caregiver Program, Kin-GAP and Extended Foster Care.
- Understand the consequences of non-compliance with federal funding requirements.
- Describe the ongoing processing requirements for each type of foster care case.
- Work collaboratively to complete timely and accurate foster care eligibility determinations.
