Crisis Intervention - CalWORKs Intake

Financial instability is a crisis that precedes the CalWORKs (CW) Intake process. Imagine for a moment: You are living paycheck to paycheck and you are on your last $20 until payday. Your gas tank is empty and so is the refrigerator. Rent is due on payday as well. Your check doesn’t show up. What do you do? How do you feel?

When someone applies for CW, it is due to a financial crisis. Although regulations state that the County has 45 days to process a CW application, imagine waiting 45 days to financial relief. Intake workers should make every effort to process a CW application as soon as possible to intervene and relieve the crisis, including screening for Immediate Need (IN).

Learning Objectives include:

  • Understanding Immediate Need requirements
  • Review intake requirements for CW
  • Determine efficient ways to complete CW intake applications
  • Create a system that will allow for fast approvals/denials
