California FFPS Learning Series - Safety Through the Lens of Prevention

Course Overview

This course is designed to equip all partners administering Family First Prevention Services (FFPS) and entities providing case management for FFPS with common language, tools, and strategies to engage families in discussions around safety. Participants will have an opportunity to learn about Safety Organized Practice and how aspects of the model can be utilized to enhance existing practices within organizations and collaborate more effectively with partners across the family well-being
system.

Who Should Attend?

This course is intended for staff administering the Family First Prevention Services (FFPS) Program and entities delivering FFPS services within participating counties.  Participants should complete the following courses before attending:

  • CA FFPS Learning Series: FFPS Overview
  • CA FFPS Learning Series: Shifting Mindset towards Prevention

Learning Objectives

After attending this training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the importance of collaboration and shared understanding when providing prevention services and supports to children, youth, and families.
  • Identify key concepts and strategies that can be used to assess and monitor safety while a family is participating in Family First Prevention Services.
  • Develop common language to communicate about safety and needs with families and prevention partners.
  • Using a case scenario, apply strategies to assess safety and needs when engaging with families.
  • Using a case scenario, apply strategies to develop and assess progress towards well-being goals with families and their networks.
  • Embrace collaborative strategies for providing prevention-based assessment, supports and services to families.
