As California’s vulnerable populations face new complexities and ever-increasing needs, human services eligibility staff are challenged to enhance their knowledge and skills. This two-day boot camp focuses on technical information, tools and resources eligibility staff need to work in the CalFresh public assistance program.

Day 1: Determining Household Composition in the CalFresh Program and Resource Determinations

This workshop examines the concept of a household composition in the CalFresh program. Case examples are used and participants have the opportunity to practice establishing household composition for a variety of situations. In addition, participants will learn the differences between exempt and nonexempt resources for the CalFresh eligibility determination process.

This workshop explores the budgeting process in the CalFresh program. Case examples and budgeting practice opportunities are provided.

  • Prospective eligibility determinations
  • Defining income “reasonably certain” to be received
  • Treatment of discontinued income
  • Adding and deleting persons with income
  • Impact of cash aid payments
  • Treatment of the child support disregard payment

  • Determining the contribution from excluded and non-household members
