This course explores the effects of trauma and secondary trauma on social service workers. It also explores the science behind compassion fatigue and the concept and methods of self-care. Focusing on four key areas–the mind, the body, the spirit and the heart–workers will learn key strategies for providing and taking space for self-care in specific areas of their lives.
While learning the science and methodologies of trauma and self-care, participants will participate in various guided art projects and receive hands-on experience in practicing self-care. Participants will leave the class having practiced self-care and with a plan for implementing self-care in their future lives.
