Worker Safety

About the course

This engaging and informative half-day training offers participants an opportunity to learn what safety looks like before, during, and after field work, office work, and within the community at large. Participations will learn de-escalation techniques and warning signs of violence, as well as practical/physical tips for worker safety. This training will also discuss the concept of debriefing after safety related incidents and the impact of trauma on worker safety and sustainability.

Who should attend?

All human services professionals interested in enhancing their personal safety to better position themselves to engage the communities they serve are encouraged to attend.

What will I learn in this training?

After attending this training, participants will be able to:

• Understand the importance of preparation, planning, and clinical assessment as it relates to worker safety, as well as practical/tangible steps workers can take to enhance safety.
• Understand the importance of emotional and social intelligence as it relates to assessing worker safety during field work.
• Understand the importance of debriefing and trauma informed practice as it relates to workers’ experiences with danger.
• Practice assessing and identifying potential risk factors in any given situation.
• Demonstrate skill and comprehension in identifying and de-escalating potentially hostile or violent situations.
• Demonstrate comprehension as to the importance of debriefing as a response to trauma experienced by workers.
• Value trauma-informed practices as a critical component of sustaining our workforce.
