Supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ Youth Affected by Commercial Sexual Exploitation

This half-day training addresses the unique challenges faced by 2SLGBTQIA+ foster youth who have experienced sexual exploitation and explores risk factors and best practices for identifying and supporting these youth. Building on the foundational concepts covered in CSEC 101, this session delves deeper into the specific issues affecting 2SLGBTQIA+ youth within the context of sexual exploitation.

After this training, participants will be able to

  • Identify the systemic communal and individual factors that result in higher rates of human trafficking amongst 2SLGBTQIA+ youth.
  • List three ways to remove barriers for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth seeking services and identify three culturally relevant resources that counties can offer caregivers to support CSEC-identified 2SLGBTQIA+ youth with healing, safety and well-being.
  • Identify three ways caregivers can build trust and allyship by affirming and supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ foster youth through the context of a relationship.
  • Name three ways to apply screening and identification protocols to capture the nuances and complexities of how trafficking presents within 2SLGBTQIA+ youth.
  • Identify the indicators of sexual exploitation of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth in foster care
  • Effectively engage in empathetic and informed conversations with 2SLGBTQIA+ youth in foster care about issues related to sexual exploitation, demonstrating skills in active listening cultural competence, and trauma-informed care
