Reflective Supervision in Child Welfare with Simulation-Based Learning
Course Overview
This immersive 1.5-day advanced reflective supervision training builds on the foundational knowledge, skills and values acquired in the initial one-day classroom experience. Through a dynamic blend of theory, simulation and practice, participants will strengthen their ability to facilitate reflective supervision with compassion, empathy and cultural responsiveness.
Day 1 focuses on deepening understanding and skill building through exploration of core principles, the parallel process between supervision and direct practice, and strategies to enhance self-awareness, cultural competence and resilience. Interactive peer discussions and exercises support the development of confidence in engaging staff in meaningful reflection.
Day 2 offers a half-day simulation lab that provides a safe space for practice, feedback and integration. Participants will engage in realistic scenarios, receive feedback from facilitators and peers and reflect on their practice to reinforce key concepts and foster learning transfer.
After attending this training, participants will emerge with:
- Enhanced knowledge and practical skills in reflective supervision
- Increased confidence in facilitating reflective conversations
- Greater self-awareness and emotional insight
- Tools to foster compassionate, empathetic and culturally attuned practice with children, youth, and families
