Motivational Interviewing to Facilitate Family Change (Virtual Training)
Motivational interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based practice for helping people engage in and maintain behavior change. MI is considered a key skill when working with mandated and underserved populations, as well as with discord and reluctance about change. MI is often used as a piece of a comprehensive Safety Organized Practice and can be blended with other interviewing and skill building techniques, especially when helping individuals and families initiate and sustain healthy behavior changes.
This course has been structured to allow social workers an opportunity to acquire, practice and improve MI skills and strategies. The sessions focus on key MI components and processes and give participants an opportunity to practice, refine and refresh their MI skills.
As a result of successfully completing this workshop, participants will be able to:
-
Identify the four elements of MI Spirit
-
Identify the four MI tasks
-
Identify the seven kinds of change talk vital for motivational conversations
