Managing Complex Cases: An APS Investigator's Guide to Untangling Complexity

This three-hour course provides Adult Protective Services workers with the foundational skills required to effectively analyze and work through complex cases. Learners will be provided with the tools, skills and real-world resources to support a manageable plan for difficult, multifactorial cases and situations. Using proven strategies known as case mapping, workers will practice the skills needed to enhance critical thinking and support effective case planning and follow-through. Although this course is designed for APS workers, the skills are transferable to other disciplines that serve vulnerable adults. 

Objectives: 

By end the of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify and describe the common features and barriers of adult protective services complex cases
  2. Apply a field-ready framework to analyze and organize, and prioritize an achievable service plan when working a complex case
  3. Utilize best practice approaches for investigation and interventions in some of the most difficult cases/situations
