Including Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Questions in APS Practice eLearning

This interactive eLearning introduces Adult Protective Services professionals to the definitions of sexual orientation and gender identity, along with the diverse ways people may identify. The course also covers the importance of asking inclusive demographic questions and offers techniques to support respectful, affirming conversations.

After attending this training, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the difference between sexual orientation and gender identity

  • Recall four events that shaped the historical experiences of the LGBTQ+ community and continue to impact individuals served by APS

  • Demonstrate the importance of asking inclusive questions that allow people to self-identify by providing two examples of inclusive questions
