Fiscal Essentials for Public Assistance Leadership
This comprehensive course equips public assistance supervisors and managers with the fiscal knowledge and leadership skills essential for effective financial stewardship in social services programs. Participants will explore the foundational principles, funding structures and regulatory frameworks that govern public assistance financing at the federal, state and local levels.
By the end of the course, learners will be able to engage confidently in budget development, monitor program expenditures and contribute to fiscally sound program operations. This course supports professional growth and prepares participants to lead with fiscal integrity and strategic insight.
After attending this training, participants will be able to:
- Explain the foundational principles of social services financing, including key funding streams, fiscal terminology and the role of the claiming process in funding recovery.
- Interpret and apply fiscal data to enhance program management, demonstrating an understanding of budget development, fiscal accountability and supervisory strategies that promote informed financial decision-making.
- Identify and implement strategies to maximize funding and revenue opportunities, balancing community needs with available resources while ensuring compliance with federal and state requirements, including allowability and certified public expenditures (CPEs).
- Collaborate effectively across departments and with fiscal teams, applying best practices for interdepartmental coordination with partners such as mental health, probation and education to strengthen fiscal outcomes.
- Integrate fiscal awareness into daily leadership practices, guiding staff in responsible fiscal behavior and contributing to the development of sustainable, community-responsive programs.

Fee Details: The enrollment fee for this 1-day class is $255.00 per participant or .06 training units for those utilizing their county contract. This fee includes quality instruction from subject-matter expert(s), research-based curricula and all digital course materials.
Training Format: This program will be offered via remote learning using Zoom. Login information will be provided after your enrollment is processed.
Open enrollment is designed for individual participation. Because of class size limits, attendance tracking, and the need for active engagement, we don’t allow groups to enroll under one individual registration. That if they do have a larger group needing this training (18 and up ) they may want to consider a dedicated county-only course.
