Field Safety Essentials for Working with Older Adults

This course aids human services agencies by strengthening human service workers' field safety skills. It focuses on identifying field safety risks, tips and strategies, recognizing signs of escalation and ways to de-escalate. Based on request, the training will additionally offer: agency-specific safety policies, procedures and resources; or vignettes and group activities for skills practice.

After attending this training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify field safety risks, tips and strategies
  • Recognize signs of escalation and ways to de-escalate
  • Explore agency-specific safety policy procedures and resources (or, by request, explore vignettes and additional practice skills)
  • Define personal safety boundaries in the field
  • Assert boundaries
  • Produce and practice an exit phrase
  • Disengage, de-escalate and deter
  • Demonstrate competence in keeping the human services work as safe as possible
  • Assert personal human service worker safety while maintaining service to the community

Fee Details: The enrollment fee for this ½ -day class is $127.50 per participant or .03 training units for those utilizing their county contract. This fee includes quality instruction from subject-matter expert(s), research-based curricula and all digital course materials.

Training Format: This program will be offered via remote learning using Zoom. Login information will be provided after your enrollment is processed.
