Concurrent Planning Principles (Virtual Training)

This one-day class provides an overview of the key principles of concurrent planning as a primary strategy to achieve timely permanency for children and youth in out of home care.  Participants will have opportunities to practice strength-based, child-centered, trauma-informed and culturally responsive engagement strategies to enhance the concurrent planning process in collaboration with the Child and Family Team (CFT).

After attending this training, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the basic history and legal requirements of concurrent planning in child welfare practice
  • Describe the key tasks of concurrent planning throughout the life of the case, including preparation, ongoing activities, potential benefits and challenges
  • Understand how the Child Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) and the CFT inform and support the practice of concurrent planning
  • Demonstrate effective engagement strategies, including facilitation of emotionally complex, honest, full-disclosure conversations with children, youth, parents, and other significant caregivers throughout the life of the case in pursuit of safety, permanency, and well-being for children and youth.
