California FFPS Learning Series - Case Management for Child Welfare

Course Overview

This course orients child welfare staff to the case management roles and responsibilities as they relate to Family First Prevention Services (FFPS), including partnering with families and tribes to conduct needs assessments, developing family well-being plans, and aftercare planning. Participants will explore how to apply best practice engagement, assessment and case planning strategies to seamlessly weave FFPS roles and responsibilities into their current work with children, youth and families to promote sustained family well-being.

Who Should Attend?

This course is intended for California child welfare social workers, supervisors and program staff involved in FFPS implementation and oversight. Participants should complete the following courses before attending:

After attending this training, participants will be able to:

• Identify core components of family well-being plans.
• Examine strategies to engage families in needs assessments.
• Identify tools and strategies to assess and monitor progress.
• Recognize the importance of aftercare and transition planning.
• Using a case scenario, connect tools and strategies to the processes of assessment and planning with families during the provision of Family First Prevention Services.
• Endorse the use of a trauma-informed, culturally relevant and collaborative practice with families when assessing needs and developing plans to support well-being
