Implicit bias refers to attitudes or stereotypes that unconsciously affect our actions and understanding. Implicit bias can lead to microaggressions, which are subtle, indirect or even unintentional acts of exclusion or discrimination that nevertheless cause harm. It is vital for Human Services professionals to have an awareness of how implicit bias can show up in order to mitigate the impact of these biases on the children, youth, families and adults. This training invites participants to identify and explore their own biases. It will also provide effective approaches to overcome them to increase the success of their work as a helping professional.
