Advancing Permanency through Adoption – Module 1: Foundation

This one-day foundational module is the first in a four-part series designed to increase child welfare social worker knowledge, skill and understanding of permanency through adoption.

After attending this foundational module, participants will be able to:

• Describe a historical timeline of federal legislation related to adoption, from the "orphan trains" of 1854 to current laws
• Identify practices that support and sustain safe permanency options for children/youth in foster care
• Understand and apply state and federal laws and practice models currently impacting permanency
• Value the role of  Continuum of Care Reform (CCR), Resource Family Approval (RFA), the Integrated Core Practice Model (ICPM), Child Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) and Child and Family Team Meetings (CFTMs) in the transition of children and youth from foster care to permanency
• Engage, through practice, in collaborative decision making to ensure effective assessment and preparation for permanency
• Identify their own personal values and/or bias and understand how they impact their professional practice.
