Working With Traumatized Adults

This training illustrates and addresses trauma through the lens of its neurophysiological impact on adult social development, emotions and behavior. The session introduces signs and symptoms of internal and external triggers, along with interventions that support inner calm and regulation in stressed adults. We will also define trauma, identify triggers and trauma-driven behaviors, and highlight strategies to support regulation and reduce overwhelming stress responses in both clients and practitioners. The format includes a PowerPoint presentation, video, discussion and a collective case-based think tank to explore ways to engage and stabilize clients who are suffering or in crisis.

After attending this training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe causes and manifestations of trauma and its influence on adult social development, emotions and behavior
  • Draw on reflective insights using MOC theory to develop effective strategies for working with traumatized adults
  • Respond to fear- and stress-driven behaviors with deescalating verbal and nonverbal communication
  • Examine strategies and practices that support trauma-informed workplaces
