Understanding and Engaging Older Adults

This workshop will focus on understanding the aging process and complex changes that occur both mentally and physically as people age. We will highlight the impact of specific issues related the biological, social and psychological aspects of aging. Participants will explore and examine their role as human services workers serving older adults and will learn techniques to adequately assess and identify the appropriate services to assist in reducing negative outcomes for our aging population.

  • Reviewing the Aging Process and Cycle
  • Exploring the Context in which Society Views Aging
  • Reviewing Aging related culture
  • Recognizing Challenges working with seniors
  • Identifying potential signs of depression in seniors
  • Providing resources and referrals for seniors
  • Identifying possible senior abuse and/or neglect
  • Exploring the role of adult protective services
