Youth involved with the juvenile justice system often have been exposed to early trauma or to traumatic events. It is key to understand how these symptoms and trauma-reactive behavior effect their everyday interaction and decision making. Youth reacting to trauma are more vulnerable to a mental health diagnosis and have behavior impacting resources and relationships. Understanding trauma reactions can guide work with youth and family, as well as help inform you when building plans and determining placements.
