As a result of this workshop, participants will obtain knowledge and tools to help them meet the needs of adult applicants and recipients with disabilities, and gain a greater understanding of services and resources that will best support their engagement with the welfare participant.
Participants will learn about:
- The disability laws in order to ensure the prohibition of discrimination against individuals with disabilities
- Prejudices associated with individuals with physical, mental and learning disabilities
- Sensory and perceptual needs of individuals with disabilities
- A work-related knowledge of how to respond to an employee’s request for reasonable accommodation and/or an applicant or recipient’s request for programmatic accessibility (structural or program access)
- Review of the people-first or person-first language (PFL) guidelines
- Guidelines on how to interview an individual with disability
