Structured Decision Making for Social Workers

Structured Decision Making (SDM) is a case management system designed to help child welfare workers assess risk and safety concerns in families and deliver the appropriate level of service and intervention throughout the life of a case.

Participants will learn:

  • The history, research and rationale of SDM
  • The priority response tool
  • Safety and risk assessments
  • Needs and strengths assessments
  • Reassessment

Participants will gain an understanding of the philosophy and research behind Structured Decision Making and will learn to use this method by examining and practicing each tool in the SDM model.
