A common misconception is to view stress as a negative reaction to a challenge. When the body experiences stress, the automatic process known as the “fight-or-flight” reaction or the “stress response” kicks into high gear as a form of protection. When working properly, the stress response will help you stay focused, energetic and alert. If stress is not properly managed, it can cause a negative impact on your body and potentially create serious health issues, including emotional, physical, behavioral and cognitive symptoms. This workshop will help you recognize stressors, learn to manage stress and apply self-care practices to help avoid burnout.
Topics include:
- Defining stress and becoming aware of how it impacts the brain and body
- Understanding the connection between stress and burnout in the field of human services
- Reviewing models for wellness and stress management
- Learning and applying self-care techniques
