Solution focused therapy (SFT) is a brief therapy model that is future oriented, goal directed and focuses on solutions, rather than on the problems that brought clients in for treatment.
During this highly interactive one-day training, participants will learn the major concepts, basic principles and practical interventions of SFT and how it compares and integrates with motivational interviewing (MI). They will also understand how the SFT model can be applied in their own coaching practice in order to serve diverse populations in various settings.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn SFT and MI interventions through direct observation, discussion and training exercises. Participants will be encouraged to explore how their own client experiences can be applied using these perspectives and interventions.
After attending this training, participants will be able to:
- Identify the philosophical and basic principles of SFT and MI
- Identify at least three interventions from SFT
- Identify at least one intervention from MI
- Learn and name at least two interventions that they can use in their practice
