Through the Human Services SOGIE (sexual orientation, gender identity and expression) training, individuals will have a better understanding of SOGIE matters and terms under the umbrella of the LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual) community. All participants can gain new and updated verbiage on SOGIE/LGBTQIA+ matters, even those persons who identify as members of the LGBTQIA+ community and those knowledgeable in these topics will have the opportunity to become better acquainted with different identities and topics, as well as gain a better understanding of SOGIE as a whole. This workshop provides an overview of vocabulary and perceptions of SOGIE/LGBTQIA+ issues and how these concepts fit into society.
Topics include:
- Enhance communication skills when addressing the SOGIE/LGBTQIA+ community
- Develop an awareness of issues faced by persons that associate within SOGIE/LGBTQIA+
- Explore opportunities to be more inclusive in our work in human services
- Gain understanding of Assembly Bill 959 - Chapter 565 with how to interpret the law and how it affects Public Services
