SOP For Support Staff

Safety Organized Practice (SOP) is a collaborative practice approach that emphasizes the importance of teamwork in child welfare. Through this workshop, family service workers will become familiar with SOP strategies and techniques that align with the belief that a child and his or her family are the central focus, and that the partnership between the agency and the family exists to find solutions that ensure safety, permanency, and well-being. 

After attending this training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the goals, objectives, and values of SOP
  • Understand how SOP assists in effective engagement and collaboration with the family
  • Demonstrate (through a case example) the use of SOP techniques & strategies to engage the child and family
  • Endorse their role as a change agent
  • Appreciate the importance of teaming and collaboration with the Child & Family Team to truly engage families in their safety network development, assessments, and service plans that are culturally relevant, individualized, trauma-informed and behaviorally specific
  • Reflect on their own best practices and consider how to implement SOP into their work with children and families
