Risk Assessment

This workshop provides an overview of various risks associated in working with families and children in a home setting. Topics include a description of indicators, assessment and engagement around child and dependent adults in danger, family violence, suicidality, danger to others, psychosis, and substance use and in turn how these affect parenting and family safety. The workshop also incorporates considerations for collaborative efforts, case planning, safety planning and decision making. A focus on the importance of addressing risk in the moment and taking the necessary steps to ensure family safety is emphasized

  • Exploring Ethical Standards for Human Services Professionals
  • Identifying & Assessing indicators of child/dependent adult abuse and neglect
  • Recognizing possible indicators of suicidality and family violence
  • Assessing and Responding when psychosis or substance use pose a safety risk
  • Understanding Vicarious Trauma, historical trauma and the impact on families
  • Developing a Team Approach in response to serving families & children
