Probation Placement Supervisors and Managers Coaching Skill Development: Strategies for Communicating Effectively with Staff

Join us for this six-hour interactive workshop on communicating effectively in order to begin creating substantive coaching conversations in our work environments.  During the day, practice techniques for effective listening and for asking insightful questions that intentionally transform how we relate daily to each other in our work in juvenile probation. This training experience also includes goal-setting strategies and examines specific relationships in our work as participants determine how to create, sustain, and expand the quality of these relationships.

Topics include
  • Participants will consider the effectiveness of their natural communication styles.
  • Participants will learn about Appreciative Inquiry and questioning techniques as an approach to working with staff.
  • Participants will learn and consider their use and future appropriate applications of the three levels of listening.
  • Participants will consider their roles in developing meaningful goals with families and/or staff.

As a result of this training, supervisors and managers will practice fundamental coaching skills for increasing management and supervision effectiveness and will better understand the philosophy and requirements for communicating expectations and working through obstacles related to providing effective placement services, while meeting the need to provide a supportive environment for their placement officers in times of substantial systemic change. Supervisors and managers will experience support in a highly interactive environment and will learn about resources and tools aimed at enhancing communication strategies and collaborating skills, including specific skill practice in areas including listening, creating effective and thought provoking questions through proven questioning techniques and goal setting and mastery that moves placement officers toward achievement of desired outcomes.
