A Virtual-Learning Workshop and Strategy Session

Leaders in human services are faced with many complex and challenging dilemmas including economic and fiscal challenges, COVID-19, social justice issues and our workforce’s ability to pivot to meet the complex needs of our systems of care. It requires skills for navigating rapidly changing environments and an understanding of the deeply social nature of the workplace. Unfortunately, due to the way the human nervous system is wired, change is often met with a great deal of unease. However, research from modern neuroscience helps deepen our understanding of what it means to be human, uncovering there is a science that underlies engagement necessary for innovative problem solving and collaborative teamwork. Disengagement is the primary reason why people appear to be “resistant” to change and why people struggle to regulate themselves in challenging situations that call for emotionally and socially intelligent interpersonal interactions. As a leader in human services, knowing the biological underpinnings of collaboration and influence can be a game changer.

This interactive brain-based learning and leadership development workshop draws on breakthroughs in modern neuroscience, psychophysiology of stress resilience and mind-body research, providing fresh insights into the biology of engagement and the facilitation of change, particularly in the context of child and family serving systems of care. There will be a focus on helping leaders use a biologically respectful approach to engagement and the facilitation of positive change based on what neuroscience tells us drives human behavior. Participants learn a neuroscience-based framework for creating a climate of trust and collaboration, along with science-based strategies for self-mastery, co-regulation, and wellbeing.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe what drives human behavior based on discoveries in neuroscience
  • Apply a brain-based framework for increasing engagement in transformative change
  • Utilize self-regulation tools for self-mastery, co-regulation, and wellbeing
